What You Can Bring Into the Dominican Republic

Before traveling to the Dominican Republic, we recommend reviewing the list of items allowed into the country.

The following restrictions currently apply:

  • 1 liter of alcohol (proof isn’t specified);
  • 1 box of cigars or 200 cigarettes;
  • gifts worth no more than $100;
  • 2 bottles of perfume for personal use.

It’s prohibited to bring in narcotics, gardening or agricultural products, meat and dairy products, animals, weapons, pornographic material, car or engine parts, and more than $10,000 USD in cash.

Prescription medication must be in its original packaging.

Some souvenirs bought on the island are prohibited from export. These include shells, coral, starfish, and sea turtles. It’s also worth checking your own country’s import rules in advance — for example, whether you’re allowed to bring in the traditional mamajuana liquor blend, wooden figurines, boxes, and straw hats. These can carry potentially harmful insects, so customs authorities in some countries are entitled to confiscate such items. If you’re leaving the airport during a layover in another country, check that country’s import rules too.
