Great, the choice is made! But there’s still one more important question ahead: which hotel to stay at, so reality matches — or better yet, exceeds — your expectations?

Families with young children will love the Family zone, with its kids’ pools and pirate-themed water park club. For anyone who loves eating well — and beautifully — Barceló is a real find! Eleven restaurants, bookable in advance, all running on an all-inclusive basis! Every evening you can show off a new outfit while strolling through the hotel’s luxurious halls, try foie gras, baked snails, and strawberries with cream at the French restaurant La Comédie — by the way, the only à la carte restaurant here that requires an extra fee. Enjoy fantastic steaks at the American Grill, fresh seafood at the beachfront La Brisa, or a peaceful breakfast at the quiet little Hoyo 19 restaurant.
You won’t love this hotel if you dislike dining in halls with grackles hopping around the tables, can’t stand kids shrieking, or don’t feel like walking a lot. But you’ll be thrilled with Barceló if you love sitting with a book or sipping coffee at the upper bar to the sound of a live piano, eating any time of day or night at the 24-hour Sports Bar, gambling until 4 a.m. at the casino, or catching a fantastic evening show at the theater.
A separate part of the resort complex, the Barceló Bávaro Beach Adults Only hotel, is perfect for couples without kids and anyone who prefers peace and quiet. And if you feel like some excitement, you can always head over to the Barceló Deluxe grounds, or hop on the free shuttle train that runs across the whole resort complex.
When choosing a hotel for a family vacation, it’s worth paying attention to the beach — how far it is from the buildings where the rooms are — as well as whether there are waves.
At the Grand Bahia Principe complex, for instance, family rooms sit in the Turquesa zone near the water park, kids’ club, and ropes course, but you’ll need the shuttle train to reach the beach. Meanwhile, the standalone Luxury hotel within Bahia Fantasia, aimed at families, has a stunning kids’ club — a freestanding building shaped like a Disney castle — right next to the ocean!
Whether there are waves is a factor that especially worries parents of little ones learning to swim.
The beaches at Hard Rock and Iberostar, for example, almost always have strong waves due to wind and underwater currents. These hotels also have à la carte restaurants worth visiting for a change of pace, though service isn’t always fast.
Romantic couples looking for the perfect luxurious honeymoon setting should check out Majestic Mirage — the resort’s newest hotel, known for its refinement and elegance, excellent service, personal butler system, and a lavish spa center. Paradisus Punta Cana, Secrets, and Palladium Royal Suites Turquesa also offer special packages for newlyweds.
If you love sports and can’t imagine a vacation without cardio and a proper, well-equipped gym, you’ll enjoy staying at Iberostar, Hard Rock, Royalton, Breathless, Barceló, Now Larimar, and Secrets.
There aren’t too many hotels aimed purely at a younger crowd, but a few mid-range options have earned a great reputation: Be Live Collection Punta Cana is a great fit for anyone who loves to party, since there’s a disco club right nearby; Vista Sol has a lively entertainment team and pool foam parties; and the budget-friendly Whala Bávaro, after a recent renovation, now rivals some 5-star hotels in room quality. This hotel is especially great for anyone who loves meeting new people, since guests come from every corner of the globe!
And finally, the highlight for anyone seeking refinement, tranquility, and a personal touch: the boutique Zoetry hotel, located in Uvero Alto, surrounded by nature, far from the busy center.
